Violence at Howe Community Park Leaves 4 Shot in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade

Law enforcement in Sacramento are working a shooting that unfolded on April 18 2026 at the Howe Community Park area at the moment deputies were breaking up an unauthorized event of hundreds of attendees.

What Led to the Shooting

Deputies were first dispatched to the park on Howe Avenue just after 6:30 in the evening after receiving reports of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Shortly after, a follow-up call was made concerning a potential altercation taking place near the park.

A sheriff's airship flew over the park but here reported no active disturbance. Despite this, authorities discovered that a massive group had gathered without authorization without official sanction.

The Moment Gunfire Erupted

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies worked to disperse the crowd by encircling the gathering and making announcements telling attendees to disperse at once. Approximately 15 minutes were spent for people to comply.

As the crowd was being cleared that 20 to 25 gunshots rang out. The sudden gunfire sent hundreds fleeing. Deputies immediately began searching for victims.

Four Victims Hospitalized

Altogether, four individuals were discovered with shooting injuries. All four — made up of one woman and three men each apparently in their early to late twenties — were taken to local Sacramento hospitals. Doctors and nurses confirmed that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one victim's wounds were minor. As of last report, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.

Sacramento Metro Fire assisted at the location and helped care for the injured before they were taken to the hospital.

Crime Scene Evidence

The main crime scene appears to have occurred near the Cottage Way corridor alongside the Home Depot on the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Investigators identified further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Round impacts were discovered in the iron fence bordering the Home Depot store. This ballistic evidence showed that a second shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from the Cottage Way area in the direction of the Home Depot. That Home Depot location was placed on lockdown while law enforcement worked the area. CSI units alongside detectives kept processing evidence late into the evening.

Suspects Detained

Intelligence received through law enforcement radio communications revealed that a Kia was intercepted in Solano County California. Four people were taken into custody. Deputies were dispatched to Solano County to collect the individuals for formal questioning. Video evidence confirmed that there were two gunmen.
